WHICH OF THE MDGs WILL BE THE FOCUS OF THIS YEAR’S CAMPAIGN?

While the Philippines is progressing well in its bid to achieve most of the MDGs, faster pace of gains is urgently needed to reach 2015 targets, especially because poverty has increased in the country. Current trending shows that targets for MDG 1 (Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger), MDG 2 (Achieve universal primary education) and MDG 5 (Improve maternal health) will least likely be achieved.

It is for this reason that we encourage actions to revolve around the three MDGs. However, nothing stops individuals and organizations from focusing on the other MDGs.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?

You can be counted by doing any of the following on October 16, 17 or 18:

1. Join the “I Vote for MDG” campaign
   
   
   1. Log on to www.un.org.ph/standup and fill up the survey form and submit it to the Stand United secretariat. You can also ask your family, friends and anyone you know to do the same. It is important that the forms are submitted to the Stand United secretariat on or before 10 pm of October 18.
   2. Organize “I Vote for MDG” campaign networks that will educate communities on the importance of making the MDG an election manifesto and get everyone to fill up and submit the survey forms on or before 10 pm of October 18.
   
   
2. Join a planned event.
   
   
   
   The United Nations agencies are working with partners, such as schools, NGOs, businesses, faith-based organizations, local and national government agencies. You may wish to join these UN and partner-organized events.
   
   
3. Organize your own event.
   
   If you belong to an organized group or community, you may also plan your own activity related to any of the MDGs. Simply register your event with the Stand United Secretariat.

HOW CAN YOUR ACTIVITY BE COUNTED?

• Register your event on or before 22 September 2009 by filling out the Advanced Registration Form at the back of this page and submitting it to the SUTA Secretariat either by fax ((02) 9010404) or email (standupphilippines@yahoo.com).
• Perform your chosen symbolic action as a group all at the same time and document it through photos or a video.
• Immediately after the event, submit the completed Activity Tabulation Form at the back of this page, duly certified by an independent witness, to the Stand Up Secretariat on or before 10:00 pm of October 18, 2009. If possible, submit photos or videos by email, indicating what group and event it was.
• 
  Where appropriate, include the accomplished “I Vote for MDG” survey forms and submit them alongside your filled-up Activity Tabulation Form.
